Current Housestaff
Chief Residents
Hometown:Montego Bay, Jamaica
Undergraduate: Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY
Hobbies: running, biking, traveling, dancing, listening to music, reading, sleeping and watching TV when I can Why LAC+USC: when I interviewed here I was very impressed with how much the residents cared about their patient population. They were very socially aware and felt privileged to work with their patients many of whom are from economically and socially challenging backgrounds. They talked about how they went the extra mile for their patients, and how grateful their patients were for the care they received. I am very happy with my decision. County for life!
Plans after residency: Academic medicine and Global Health
Franklyn Fenton, M.D.
Hometown: Rocklin, CA
Undergraduate: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Hobbies: Triathlons, half marathons, hiking, soccer, cooking and baking, eating the amazing food that LA has to offer
Why LAC+USC: I was looking for a program that had a major component of child advocacy and community outreach. What I found at LAC+USC was that the entire program is directed toward this goal, that every single person here shares a sense of social responsibility. I love the fact that every day I learn new tools to provide better care for the extremely underserved population that this hospital serves. Beyond that, the people at this program – the residents, faculty, nurses, and even the cafeteria staff and security guards – are such a close-knit family that I felt very at home.
Plans after residency: General pediatrics, international medicine

Judith Oh Leonor, D.O.
Western University of Health Sciences
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Undergraduate: Yale University
Hobbies: Music, Comic art, Soccer
Why LAC+USC: I chose LAC+USC because of its historic and continued dedication to its patients, based on the belief that health care is a fundamental right. On the old hospital building, there is an inscription from 1932 that reads: "Erected by the citizens of the County of Los Angles to provide hospital care for the acutely ill and suffering to whom the doctors of the attending staff give their services without charge in order that no citizen of the county shall be deprived of health or life for lack of such care and services."
I was also confident that training at LAC+USC would allow me to care for a patient population that is rich in diversity, a population I feel connected to as my parents are immigrants and I have family ties to East Los Angeles. At LAC+USC, every day I have an opportunity to make my city a better place.
Plans after residency: I am still working on a plan, but currently leaning towards primary care in an under-served community in the greater LA area.

Why LAC+USC: I chose LAC+USC for several reasons. To sum it up, it was the people – from the people in the program to the workers to the patient population. USC was one of the only programs where I really got a gut feeling that I belonged here. Everyone seemed to have such big hearts here. Everyone is so committed to our patient population, and that really seemed to permeate throughout the entire program. Working with this population is special for me and I always desired to work with this sort of underserved population. It affords so many opportunities to get involved and help out beyond just medicine. I felt that there was true community engagement here and that was very compelling. I also like the size of the program here. It’s not so big that you get lost in the crowd but still has exposure to a ton of different pathology. Although there are many other reasons and factors, let’s just say being in LA and the excellent board pass rate didn’t hurt either.
Plans after residency: I’m pretty sure I want to do general pediatrics. I am still undecided if that will be in the inpatient hospitalist role or the outpatient role as I really love both.
