Resident Education
The Pediatric Residency curriculum is a three year program designed to prepare the resident for certification by the American Board of Pediatrics. There are eleven resident positions for each of the three years. The curriculum includes experience in continuity clinic, subspecialty clinics, community outreach , the emergency room, normal newborn nursery, NICU, pediatric inpatient service, PICU and electives.

On Call
On-call responsibility during inpatient months is 1 night in 4. The schedule provides for 4 days per 28 days free from patient care duties.
Duty Hours
Resident duty hours are in full compliance with the Department of Pediatrics Graduate Medical Education Residency Teaching Policies and Procedures, in accordance with the ACGME Common Program Requirements effective July 1, 2011.

Problem Rounds
Problem Rounds is a weekly conference in which our housestaff and attending staff discuss a case presentation of a patient that was recently admitted to the inpatient pediatric ward.

Continuity Clinic
Each house officer is assigned one-half day per week to Continuity Clinic throughout the three years of training. The ratio of residents to faculty in Continuity Clinic is 4 to 1.
Research Opportunities
House officers have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of research fields. An annual research fair is held for residents to present case reports, community-based projects, and basic research.
Patient Care Projects
Many housestaff projects have been implemented oer the years to improve patient care and community awareness. Projects include Eyes for LA, Mommy Call, After Hours, Prenatal Classes, and Serving the Underserved (www.servingunderserved.com).
