Pediatric Curriculum
The Pediatric Residency curriculum is a three
year program designed to prepare the resident
for certification by the American Board of
Pediatrics. There are eleven resident positions for
each of the three years. The curriculum includes
experience in continuity clinic, community
subspecialty clinics, the emergency room, normal
newborn nursery, NICU, pediatric inpatient
service, PICU and electives.

On Call
On-call responsibility during inpatient months
is 1 night in 4. The schedule provides for 4
days per 28 days free from patient care duties.
DUTY HOURS
A. Residents must not be scheduled for more than
80 hours of duty per week, averaged over a
four-week period.
B. Residents must be provided one day in seven
free from all patient care responsibilities,
averaged over a four-week period.
C. Call must be no more frequently than every
third night averaged over a four-week period.
D. There must be a 24-hour limit on on-call
duty, with an added period of up to 6 hours for
continuity and transfer of care, educational
debriefing and didactic activities; no new
patients may be assigned after 24 hours.
E. A 10-hour minimum rest period should be
provided between duty periods
F. When residents take call from home and are
called into the hospital, the time spent in the
hospital will be counted toward the weekly hour
limit. |
